Kites
Who hasn't yearned to be in control of a soaring, swirling and diving kite (or at least fly it better than the person struggling to get theirs airborne!)
The earliest Kites are depicted in Indonesian Cave paintings dated from 9500-9000BC, the Chinese have records of silk and bamboo kites around 500BC and paper styles from around 549AD
India elevated Kites to a new height (see what I did there?) with fighter Kites (Patang) and they are flown in their thousands during festivals
The Romans had Windsock like banners and by 18th-19th Europe had finally caught on, although initially using them as Scientific instruments
Nowadays they are mostly used for fun and you can't deny that they are - there is NOTHING like the feeling of holding a Kite at the very end of its string
Many, many generations of people all over the world can't be wrong (well, they clearly can ... but not about Kites)
