Elasmosaurus has always been one of our popular sea reptile models
We're not quite sure why it has so many fans, maybe it's the crazy long neck or the teeny tiny head!
Elasmosaurus is one of the early fossil discoveries, found in the USA in the 1850's and hilariously, initially reconstructed with its head on its tail!
One of the biggest of all Pleisiosaurs, Elasmosaurus had a massive 71 vertebrae in its neck (most of the other Pleisiosaurs had fewer than 60 bones)
Some have people suggest a plesiosaurus like Elasmosaurus could be 'Nessie' the Loch Ness Monster however, IF there is a big beastie in Loch Ness, the current science says plesiosaurs could not hold hold their heads up ... they carried them more or less straight ahead AND there is just not enough fish in the Loch to keep one going for any length of time
